Metal Accent Homewares

Cold, shiny and hard, many people are not sure how to incorporate the element of metal into their living spaces. Many designers are drawn to metal accents and furniture because it has a bold, strong and traditional appearance that stands the test of time. Unless we are in the garden or on a patio, all metal furnishings may seem harsh or dungeon like. However a cast iron baker's shelf, display rack, or coat stand looks lovely amid most settings. Metal accents such as garden sculptures, wind chimes, or doorstops are another way to bring some lustrous mineral deposits into the room. Wall plaques and candle holders are an excellent option for metal artwork to display.

Baker's Stands

The original purpose of a bakers stand is for cooks to have a place to set their cooling baked goods. With a metal shelf there is less likelihood for fire damage. However it did not take long for some creative gardener and rummager to figure out bakers racks could hold plants too. Baker's stands are an impressive piece of merchandise that double as a display rack. With such a beautiful shelf it is easy to exhibit any number of inanimate décor or living houseplants. Some designers even go so far as to place baker's stands in the garden where plants and vines can grow around them as they hold stuff.

Candle Holders

Since metal will only burn at an extremely high temperature, metal candle holders are ideal for their purpose of bearing an open flame. There are many styles of metallic candle holder to choose from. A charming votive holder is a popular choice, especially in cute shapes like lanterns, butterflies, or jars. At other times a metal candle cage is able to contain several candles while functioning as a lovely centre piece. The double or triple tiered metal candle holder is a traditional style with a modern twist. Wall candle holders can be suspended on a wall to create a breathtaking display when it is dark or light.

Display Stands

Metal display stands have their place in nearly any retail environment and they look good sitting around the house too. For example there are many different types of metal jewellery rack to consider. The jewellery bust is made of metal and has an antique look that lends itself well to exhibiting trinkets. A rectangular jewellery holder with a tray is a simpler approach that can catch errant baubles. The metal jewellery tree is a trendy selection that also appeals to nature lovers. In a tight space it makes more sense to suspend charms from wall hooks on a hanging metal display stand.

Metal Items

Small metal pieces set here and there can still have a dramatic effect. Even something as simple as an old fashioned key ring can be a metal accent. Ornaments and statuettes made of metal add a whimsical touch to the home and garden. Wall décor made of finely crafted iron or other metals can hold many things like terra cotta pots or candles. A metal doorstop is a useful way to prop open a door. Bird cages are traditionally made out of metal but they do not have to be used to house small birds anymore. A metallic chime looks charming hanging in a window and makes pleasing tones and dings in the wind.

Wall Plaques

Metal plaques stand out on a wall whether it is indoors or outdoors. They are a variation on the time honoured notion of wall art; often three dimensional in nature. There are many ways for metallurgists to craft handsome wall hangings. The cast iron sign is a wonderful way to welcome people into the home or remind them of treasured values. Imitating the growth on a vine or tree is another way to go with special additions such as flowers or birds. The simple wall panel with a laser cut design in it is a beautiful touch.
