Outdoor Living Furniture

The secret to decorating your outdoor living space with wholesale furniture is weather proofing. Certain materials such as metal are more resistant to the elements than others. Of course it depends on a number of other factors like whether it is a screened patio or not. However metal furniture and décor often have a special place outdoors whereas it would be considered odd to have an indoor room decorated entirely with metal furnishings. For a covered patio it is even possible to include a wider array of furnishings including sofas and chairs, accent tables, and candle holders. Those with a backyard open air deck may also want to consider more decorations than one would find in the front yard. There are so many kinds of porches that it may prove advantageous to analyze each one further in depth below.

Screened Patios

Screened patios are wonderful because it is like being in an outdoor room. There is nothing quite like getting a breath of fresh air as you lounge on the sofa. That is why many designers like to take advantage of covered porches with a seating area. This is usually the classic combination of padded chairs and couches and other decorative touches. The other nice thing about these outdoor retreats is that they can be more thoroughly decorated than front porches. Under lock and key, the furnishings and décor are less likely to be carried away in the dead of night by passers-by or mosquitos.

Backyard Decks

Backyard decks are especially popular for outdoor activities like barbeques during the summer time. Many backyard decks are reserved as eating areas with a table and chairs. However lounges and chaises are also popular options for soaking up sun. Ideally the deck is large enough for some combination of both that also overlooks a swimming pool. It is possible to dress up a backyard deck with a cafe table and chairs, some potted plants, decorative items, and a little creativity. Depending on the climate in your area it may be advisable to add some form of protection to the deck like an umbrella or a canvas.

Open Air Porches

Open air patios are typically in the front or backyard, unless you are lucky enough to live in a house that has a wrap-around porch. Open air porches generally call for seating and a few other decorative touches. The lack of walls in these enclosures makes it more practical to employ some form of hard seating that is able to resist precipitation. Metal chairs, benches, and tables work well on the porch for this reason. For an extra splash of color that is easier on the rear end metal seats can be covered with special cushions that are made from water resistant materials.

Garden Furnishings

In many cultures they prefer to take their meals outdoors in the garden when the weather is nice enough. But it is not always a good idea to put certain pieces of furniture out in the yard, which is why they use picnic benches or café tables. Metal pieces work well in or near the garden. For example the baker's rack, originally meant to bear cooling baked goods, is now practically a gardening necessity. They are ideal for storing house plants or tools and equipment associated with gardening. A small bench with flowers is perfect for the yard because it resembles the blossoms it is surrounded by.

Wall Hangings

When decorating an outdoor area it is important not to forget the walls (or fence) especially if you are hoping to achieve the maximum effect. There are several kinds of wall art that work well in outdoor locations. Usually you see signs outside so it makes sense to display a collection on the patio wall. Tin signs will rust in the rain but can be hung in a protected area. Wall plaques are flat sculptures that are fashioned out of metal. Consider using a wall candle holder outdoors which would look twinkly and pretty if it were lit up after dark. They also provide a pleasing source of light for the residents at home.
